Academic Contests

Students take part in numerous academic contests throughout the year.  In the fall, students in grades 4-8 participate in the annual Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee. The winners and runners-up in their classroom bees participate in the local bee, sponsored by the St. Clair Knights of Columbus.  We have been fortunate to have several students each year who go on to the diocesan competition held at St. Lawrence in Utica.

Students also take part in the National Geographic Geography Bee.  Eighth graders take part in the America and Me essay contest.  Students also take part in various contests sponsored by local civic and community organizations, as well as those sponsored by the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Each year, students from Holy Cross Catholic School meet with other students in the Blue Water Vicariate to participate in the Academic Olympics. This event, which is held traditionally at the beginning of Catholic Schools Week, is an opportunity for students to exercise their minds! Students compete in four different areas: Religion, Problem Solving, Mathematics, and Forensics.
